Aristotle proposed to study poetry by analyzing its partial parts and then drawing general conclusions. The surviving part of the poem mainly discusses tragedy and epic poems. We know that Aristotle also wrote an article about comedy that is lost. He defines poetry as the mimic or imitative use of language, rhythm, and combination, expressive or a combination. Poetry is mimic because it represents things and events in the world, such as representing ideas. Man, of course, is drawn to imitation, and therefore poetry is very attractive to us. It can also be a great learning tool, as we can coolly see the mimicry of things like dead bodies and disgusting animals when the real thing awaits us. Aristotle Poetics Review:
Aristotle’s tragedy is known as the most refined version of poetry dealing with high-level problems and comedy, the most refined form of poetry dealing with major problems. He traces the short and speculative history of the tragedy as it originated from the gymnastics anthem to the glory of the god Dionysus. Aeschylus introduced another actor into a conversation with the narrator. Sophocles added more novelty with the introduction of the third actor, and the tragedy gradually turned into a modern drama. The tragedy consists of six parts, listed here in order from most important to least important: plot, characters, ideas, fantasy, melody, and spectacle.
